Job Description:
Description Be part of our fun, energetic Youth team this summer
by supporting staff at in-house library programs and providing
storytimes at local summer schools. You will also engage with the
community by getting children excited about reading while helping
at our summer reading desk. This position is a great opportunity
for those interested in gaining public library experience and/or
experience working with kids. SCHEDULE: This is temporary position
for approximately 10 weeks, starting the week of May 25 through the
week of July 27 . 12 hours per week: Monday & Tuesday - 1pm to 5pm
Wednesday - 8:30am to 12:30pm SALARY: $16.96 per hour BENEFITS: Our
temporary staff are eligible for paid time off. P URPOSE The Youth
Summer Outreach Assistant works with an energetic, creative, and
collaborative team dedicated to providing high quality services to
children from birth through 6 th grade and their parents, teachers,
and caregivers. The Summer Outreach Assistant presents storytimes
at childcare centers, summer schools, and other community
locations; assists with in-house programming; and staffs the summer
reading desk. SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Storytime presentation at outreach
venues—35% Assisting with in-house programming —35% Staffing the
summer reading desk—30% JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Present storytimes for
preschoolers and early elementary school students Assists staff at
in-house events Assist patrons at the public service desk with the
summer reading program Prepares and organizes materials for the
outreach and in-house summer reading programs Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma preferred.
Experience with or receiving educational training for children ages
3-8 required. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Knowledge & Ability Ability to
alphabetize and arrange materials numerically Ability to drive
Ability and skill in working with children Ability to access, input
and retrieve data from the computer Ability to alphabetize Ability
to communicate pleasantly and courteously with children, adults and
staff Ability to deal with multiple tasks Ability to follow
directions and complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely
manner Ability to kneel, bend, reach, carry, jump and stretch
Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently Ability to
perform light to medium work Ability to present storytime programs
Ability to work as a member of a team Ability to work independently
Knowledge/skill in Microsoft Office applications Skill in both
verbal and written communication Behavioral Skills Communication .
