Position DescriptionTitle: Mechanical Engineer IIDepartment: EngineeringImmediate Supervisor: Engineering ManagerStatus: ExemptPosition Purpose: This position will join a dynamic engineering team, work with an industry leader and be expected to sustain a high performing customer-centric environment. This position will contribute to designing and manufacturing high quality, high efficiency cartoners, case packers, pouch packaging systems, and robotics integration. Our products are used worldwide in most major industries including Food, Pharma, Confections, Cosmetic, Beverage and many others. Our engineers manage a wide range of responsibilities-from project management, to design, to manufacturing oversight. This makes IPG-Nortech an ideal learning environment for anyone wishing to become a complete, well-rounded engineer in the automation industry or those looking to expand their experience level in a more senior-level mechanical engineering role.Principle Accountabilities1. Utilize sound engineering principles to plan, conceptualize and design new products or modify existing ones from information provided by customer request/feedback, sales/sales engineers, manufacturing personnel or service team under supervision of Senior Engineers or Engineering Manager.2. Work with other Senior Engineers to review form, fit and function of product designs by utilizing SolidWorks.3. Explore innovative manufacturing methods to help reduce mechanical assembly costs and lead time.4. Troubleshoot problems occurring during the development, fabrication, assembly, or commissioning of machinery.5. Programming and troubleshooting custom industrial robotic and automation equipment.6. Create 3D models, produce 2D drawings, and complete tolerance analysis.7. Conduct functional testing, generate written protocols, reports, maintain accurate documentation, designs, drawing, and processes.8. Provide in-field and phone support for service-related activities, including engineering support for pre-sales solutions. Limited travel to customer sites for various activities including installation support and resolving post-installation technical issues.9. Create drawings with detailing of parts and assemblies including dimensions, callouts, tolerances, and material specifications.10. Creates comprehensive build plans for the mechanical assemblers to accurately assemble/build to print.11. Develop and release bill of materials including stock material and commercials to purchasing.12. Communicate to Fabrication critical features, dimensions, materials, and tolerances.13. Evaluate and troubleshoot automation when problems arise during commissioning and propose recommendations for resolving equipment issues.14. Act as a technical mechanical design resource/support for company sales staff.15. Support applications by providing automation concepts and concept drawings in preparation of estimates and quotes.16. Stay current in new developments within industries served. Keeps informed of new applications and methods to improve systems or products.17. Travels up to 30%18. Related tasks as requested by supervisor.Essential Skills and Experience - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering - 5+ years of documented mechanical engineering experience, automated packaging experience preferred. - Experience in robotics programming is not required but must be willing to learn. - Creative mindset with attention to detail of the process, product, and material design - Strong AutoCAD/AutoDesk and SolidWorks proficiency required. - Strong understanding of automation electronics - Familiar with the following manufacturing technologies: Machining, Forming, Welding, Heat Treatment - Experience designing Cartoners, Case Packers, Pouch Machines, Palletizers, and Robotics. - Willingness to bring a team together and accomplish project goals effectively. - Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Team-oriented and collaborative - general focus on pleasing the customer. - Creative-thinking and problem-solving skills - Maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies and the ability to learn new technologies. - Aptitude and willingness to be a self-starter - Willingness to work as required to meet schedules*This position requires 30% travel and the Company requires all employees traveling on its behalf to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
