Sr Core Services Engineer - ENG002074

A Senior Core Services Engineer leads the design, integration, engineering, and troubleshooting of infrastructure technologies within the customer-servicing network, including: Enhanced Packet Core (EPC) LTE, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) VOLTE and all flavors of DNS Services. This role serves as a Subject Matter Expert, who has responsibility of implementing the infrastructure technologies within the USCC customer-servicing network. This role is responsible for overseeing the integration of technologies ensuring operational readiness by creating and contributing to the Low-Level Design. This role reviews architectural principles and high-level design of the network platforms.


  • Serve as one of the company's leading experts on LTE, VoLTE, IMS, and RCS. Support industry advancements in technology and standards applying them into USCC network environment.
  • Provide an overarching engineering vision, comprehending architecture, High level design to support network deployment planning.
  • Interfaces with the vendors' senior technical staff on critical/escalated network and system and performance/capacity related impairments.
  • Ensure CIQs, RFPs and technical discussions are complete and accurate for the deployment of new applications or technologies.
  • Define and support system requirements making recommendations to improve network performance and capacity as well as reducing costs.
  • Actively mentors other engineering staff, effectively demonstrate ability to work in a team environment to resolve issues. Develop and deliver cross-training activities, participates in a knowledge sharing environment
  • Design, support, develop and review configuration management to network elements assessing system infrastructure impacts.
  • Defines changes and testing requirements providing guidance in the implementation of Network Elements into an existing network and for Lab verification.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on tools to perform, troubleshoot, and decode packet captures of data sessions and IP-based call flows.
  • Leads interactions with partner organizations and departments to ensure proposed solutions meet architectural and engineering requirements based on industry best-practices. Creates and/or peer review "Method of Procedure" documents for new engineering changes.
  • Drive the development of analytics and automations that improve effectiveness, reliability and shorten deployment cycles of new services.


    • Bachelor's degree in related discipline and minimum 5 years experience; or equivalent work or military experience
    • Strong knowledge of IETF, GSMA and 3GPP standards
    • Deep understanding of EPC LTE, IMS/VOLTE call flows and Diameter/SIP protocols.
    • Experience in re-engineering / process improvement to automate tasks for operational purposes
    • Excellent problem solving / analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent presentation skills demonstrated in front of large audiences.
    • Ability to create / define metrics that accurately reflect the current state of a given process or operation
    • Travel required

    • Software tool: SQL Plus, Perl, K Shell, C Shell, Bash, Tcpdump, Snoop, Ethereal,
    • Services: VoLTE/IMS/RCS, EPC DNS, 1XRTT/EVDO, SDN/NFV, Capacity Management, IMS Call Session Control Function, Post Paid and Prepaid charging platforms. Voice Switching platforms, OTA, WPS, VVM, CALEA, Voicemail, IPVM, 3G/4G/5G data, VoLTE enablement
    • Service Infrastructure: Mobility Management Entity (MME), eNBs, Home Subscriber Service (HSS), Packet Gateway (PGW), Signaling Gateway (SGW), Prepaid Platforms, IMS/RCS with focus on Telephone Application Server (TAS), Media Gateways and Controllers, PCRF, ALU and Ericsson switching platforms.
    • Hardware: UNIX Servers (HP, IBM, Sun), Tandem, x86, Cisco, Nokia, Ericsson
    • Cloud/VNF: Openstack, Kubernetes, Docker
    • O/S & Network: HP/UX, Windows 2000/XP, TCP/IP, Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Linux, BSD, IOS
    • Network Protocols: IS41(WIN Triggers), SS7, TCP/IP, SNMP, SMTP, UDP, Radius, PPP, Diameter, HTTP, HTTP2, JSON, GTPv2, SIP(H.323), H.248(MGECO), DHCP, DNS (BIND), QoS, Jitter, 3GPPP interfaces and LTE TS specifications
    • Business Applications: SMART Trouble Ticketing
    • Office Automation: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Teams, WebEx
    • Planning & Design: Microsoft Project, Visio
