Job Description:
Manager, e-Learning Design
This is a hybrid role based in the Schaumburg, IL office.
Manages the design and development of instructionally-sound
education and performance support deliverables. Manages a team that
designs and develops e-Learning interactions such as simulations,
decision trees, and audio/visual for existing and new online
courses. Identifies approaches best matched to instructional goals.
Manages the development of deliverables in alignment with design
plans and requirements. Employs tools and technologies appropriate
for a variety of learning delivery methods including e-Learning,
podcasts, blended learning, video and mobile learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage the design and development of e-Learning offerings in
accordance with analysis and design requirements, with appropriate
use of a variety of e-Learning interactions and assessments (e.g.,
case studies, decision trees, simulations and video where
appropriate).
Develop and manage frameworks to incorporate techniques that
reflect evolving practices in instructional design, e.g., inclusion
of micro-content.
Develop and execute processes to measure impact of new course
elements, address data collected from e-Learning Delivery, and
continuously improve SOA offerings.
Develop sound evaluation and feedback methods that drive continuous
improvement of the organization's portfolio.
Partner with internal stakeholders, volunteers, and other Subject
Matter Experts (SMEs) on instructional analysis, design and
evaluation activities to support the organization's strategy.
Choose delivery methods consistent with instructional goals and
learning strategy.
Recommend design and development tools that meet the strategic
needs of the organization.
Manage a team of instructional technologists.
Collaborate with Education and other SOA staff on special
projects.
Stay current with new techniques that may enhance the learning
experience.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Collaborate with inter-organizational staff to identify best
practices.
Attend cross functional and volunteer meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of
training, education and experience will be considered)
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology/Design, Adult
Learning or a related field.
Three to five years' experience designing and developing
e-Learning.
Two to four years' experience working with technical content and
technical subject matter experts preferred.
Two to four years' experience in an association or similar
environment (e.g. volunteer-dependent) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES including competencies that may be
representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated
with this position.
Demonstrated application of instructional design theory and best
practice methods including adult learning theory and e-Learning
theory to deliverables.
Technical problem identification, analysis and resolution
skills.
Ability to set priorities and make recommendations about system
improvements.
Project management skills including ability to manage multiple
projects simultaneously.
Effective listening, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with and influence others to achieve shared
goals.
Adapt quickly to a constantly changing environment.
10% - 15% overnight travel required,
