Job Description Purpose: The incumbent will advance the AFS
Strategic Plan in the area of Metalcasting Technical Services. The
ideal candidate will have experience in mold & core, ferrous
metalcasting and/or melting. The position may be based in the
Chicagoland area or remotely. Key Accountabilities: Staff AFS
technical committees as assigned. Help plan and execute AFS
conferences and workshops as assigned. Stay informed about current
issues and be a primary technical resource to the metalcasting
industry and internal colleagues. Convey technical information and
AFS policy positions orally and in writing. Write and review
columns for magazines and deliver content for other AFS media.
Serve as a speaker to AFS chapter meetings and other audiences.
Position requires travel, occasional weekend and evening work.
Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills or Experience: A
minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or science, or other
relevant field. A minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant manufacturing
or related experience with insight into metalcasting. Knowledge of
molding/core, ferrous metalcasting, and melting is preferred.
Ability to think on one's feet and convey information persuasively
orally and in writing. Deep commitment to superior customer
service, internally and externally. Must be able to multitask and
effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability and
willingness to travel Must have a valid driver's license. Must be
able to read and write in English. This position is open to U.S.
citizens only due to key duties related to projects funded by the
Defense Logistics Agency. Company Description The American Foundry
Society (AFS) is a non-profit association serving members of the
metalcasting supply chain both in the United States and abroad. AFS
provides members with advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C.,
technical education through its Institute, as well as the transfer
of innovative research and technology to the industry, its
suppliers and those who buy castings. Membership is individual or
corporate and is made up of three markets, including: metalcasters
and producers of metal cast parts; metalcasting suppliers; and
casting buyers/original equipment manufacturers. Student membership
is also extended to future leaders of the metalcasting industry at
a nominal cost.
