The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is a national
not-for-profit association established in 1863 which represents

please view . Overview: Reporting to the Assistant Executive Vice
President, the Chief Economist/Division Director (CE/DD) performs
functions to participate in the formulation and execution of
Association policies, objectives and programs relating to the
economics of the veterinary profession. They will work
collaboratively with staff, volunteer leadership, members and other
stakeholders to translate data and member analytics into actionable
insights to drive practice profitability and performance for the
profession. The CE/DD will staff economic entities and working
groups; conduct benchmarking surveys and studies on veterinary
economic statistics; conduct economic analysis on policies, issues
and strategies; develop and help manage programs and projects
consistent with the Association's strategic goals; develop business
engagements and partnerships; plan and deliver industry meetings
and events; and function as a liaison with AVMA staff, volunteer
leadership, membership, and stakeholder groups.
Responsibilities:
- Representing the AVMA nationwide, the CE/DD collaborates with
stakeholders, builds partnerships, and fosters positive and
meaningful communication to advance AVMA's mission.
- Develops and administers the divisional budget including
special projects/studies relating to economic issues important to
the membership, volunteer leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinates and executes veterinary workforce surveys and
reports, including the annual Economic State of the Veterinary
Profession.
- In conjunction with other AVMA Divisions, plans the Veterinary
Business and Economic Forum.
- Ensures the Veterinary Economics Division is appropriately
staffed and able to manage economic research and benchmarking of
the veterinary profession and broader industry.
- Provides written economic policy analyses and commentaries in
support of Association policy activities for staff, volunteer
leadership, related entities, and stakeholder groups.
- Plans, directs, supervises, and guides division
activities.
- Monitors markets and oversees the division's statistical
research and economic outreach efforts.
- Represents the Association at meetings and other functions to
explain the AVMA's economic policies/positions and to gain
knowledge about related policy issues.
- Responds to inquiries concerning the Association's economic
research and policy analysis programs.
- Responsible for the performance management of all staff reports
including the establishment of goals and priorities; providing
ongoing performance feedback; performance appraisals; hiring; and
applying appropriate disciplinary actions when applicable within
the policy and procedures of the Association.
- Interprets, explains, and ensures compliance with Association
policies, rules, and regulations
- Helps to inform Association leadership of issues likely to be
of future concern.
- Assembles and distributes information pertinent to the staffing
of governance entities and oversees management of pertinent entity
and liaison activities.
- Provides support to other staff throughout the AVMA on
veterinary economic issues (e.g., advocacy, policy, and
communications).
- Implements policies and projects approved by the Board of
Directors.
- Analyzes reports, and prepares economic articles, policy
statements and other information suitable for publication in
Association journals.
- Organizes, advises, and facilitates as staff support to
assigned governance entities.
- Maintains liaison with national organizations as well as
federal and state government agencies and other related entities.
Location: While AVMA is headquartered just outside of Chicago, in
Schaumburg, IL, AVMA would consider someone based anywhere in the
U.S., but they must be willing to travel to HQ as needed. Travel:

eoe/m/f/d/v Requirements :
- Education: PhD in applied economics preferred; Masters
required.
- Minimum of ten years of experience in a leadership role;
ability to manage a high performing ; experience in a national
not-for-profit association preferred but not required.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in all aspects
of applied economics including statistics, labor economics,
business management, consumer marketing.
- Knowledge/experience with the veterinary profession and/or
animal health industry a plus.
- Skilled in diplomatic facilitation of consensus between
multiple perspectives.
- Proactive, professional, accountable and results oriented.
- Must be able to distill and communicate economic data to a
variety of audiences in a way that is easily understandable and
practical.
- Must be enthusiastic and innovative with a passion for
enhancing the work of the veterinary profession.
- Must possess a positive, collaborative, and inclusive
leadership style and work well with staff throughout the
Association as well as volunteer leadership and key
stakeholders.
- Familiarity with econometric and statistical software
packages.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication
skills.
- Strong supervisory and project management skills are
required.
