Job Description:
On behalf of a client in the utilities sector, we are seeking an
experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the
organization's financial strategy and management. Reporting
directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a key member
of the executive leadership team, the CFO will have the opportunity
to make a significant impact on the company's growth and success
while overseeing all financial aspects of the company, including
strategic financial planning, regulatory compliance, and
operational efficiency. This is a full-time position based in
Southeast Louisiana (Iberville, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge,
Ascension Parish, Assumption, St. James, St. John, Livingston).
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the
following:
- Oversee all finance functions in alignment with business goals,
including accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, monthly
close processes, contractual expenses and reporting
- Serve as a trusted collaborator and advisor to the executive
team and Board of Directors, supporting growth opportunities,
assessing potential risks, and driving long-term financial planning
and capital investment strategies.
- Provide clear, actionable financial insights and solutions to
support informed decision-making and strategic initiatives
- Lead, mentor, train and develop the finance team to foster
professional growth and high performance, including direct
supervision of a small team
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry
standards
- Manage capital structure, funding strategies, and investor
relations while directing investment activities to optimize
financial performance, including navigating federal infrastructure
financing tools, federal grant management and reporting, and
managing debt closing
- Managing multiple funding streams for large-scale
infrastructure projects and strategic operational initiatives
- Optimize banking relationships, cash flow projection processes,
and ensure financial health to support operational needs, such as
liquidity monitoring and forecasting in alignment with capital
financing plans
- Oversee internal controls, audit processes, and ensure accuracy
and integrity of financial information
- Partner with business units to align financial strategy with
corporate objectives and operational plans, supporting business and
corporate development through financial modeling and analysis
- Develop and monitor operating and capital budgets and maintain
multi-year financial forecasts, ensuring integration of long-range
planning with near-term operational needs
- Ensure accurate accounting for capital expenditures and the
timely transfer of assets in compliance with regulatory
processesMinimum qualifications and expectations include:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business
Administration, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in finance, financial and
capital project management, preferably within regulated utilities,
and pervious experience in a senior financial leadership
roleBusiness Financial Management & Strategy
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FERC accounting, rate
setting, utility cost-of-service analysis and regulatory reporting
requirements
- Expertise in budgeting, multi-year and financial forecasting,
and data analytics for operational optimization
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and experience
navigating rate cases with public utility commissions
- Familiarity with capital planning, infrastructure financing,
and debt issuance
- Proficiency in financial systems, policy development, and
compliance frameworksLeadership Skills & Communication
- Proven ability to support executive leadership with data-driven
decision-making.
- Experience working with enterprise resource planning (ERP)
systems and other financial software.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to mentor and
guide a high-performing finance team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability
to interact effectively across departments and with board members,
executives, and external stakeholdersRegulatory
- Understanding of environmental regulations, utility rate
structures, and related financial requirements.
- Knowledge of utility operations and infrastructure financing
challenges
- Existing relationships and experience with regulatory bodies a
plus
