Job Description

The Global Occupational Safety & Security Leader will provide subject matter expertise for the Safety and Security Management strategy, performance and compliance at Stepan Company. Upon request the Leader participates in continual improvement and compliance efforts, risk reduction initiatives and supports adherence to company standards, applicable industry standards, and applicable regulations related to Safety and Security for all Stepan locations. This position reports directly to the Global Director- Occupational Health, Safety and Security. 

Responsibilities

•    Injury Prevention and Loss Prevention: Delivers expert knowledge for Safety and Security Management related to employee and contractor injury risk reduction and reduction of security related exposures and losses. Expertise in safety management systems, behavioral safety, JSA, safe work permits, contractor safety reviews, incident investigation, and emergency preparedness. Expertise in industrial site and office security/loss prevention strategies, vulnerability assessments, and programs. 
•    Management Systems & Compliance: Expertise in defining, developing, and managing compliance programs issued by federal or state regulators such as OSHA, DHS, Coast Guard or other relevant global regulatory agencies. Preferred experience in ACC Responsible Care Program safety and security related requirements and US OSHA VPP requirements. Experienced in using company-wide EHS&S database systems to manage and track performance – e.g. Intelex, SDS management systems, and ISN. 
•    Safety & Security Performance:  Identifies, manages, and analyzes leading and lagging performance indicators related to injury prevention and loss prevention
•    Training Programs: Define, develop, and deliver safety and security training program content and performance tracking using global on-line and customer developed training methods.
•    Management Systems:  Assists in development, implementation and continuous improvement of Safety and Security related systems, policies, programs, standards, tools, and templates.
•    Metrics: Tracks metrics, key performance indicators, and provides Safety and Security operational reviews and reports
 

Qualifications


•    Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety for regulated chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, biochemical or other process related industry.
•    Minimum 3 years of experience in Security for regulated chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, biochemical, or other process related industry - knowledge of Customs and Border Protection, Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security requirements
•    Experience with Health, Safety, and Security on national or global level.
•    Knowledge of global Health, Safety and Security regulations in the chemical industry. 
•    Strong verbal, written communication and technical writing skills; effective group speaking and presentation skills
•    Professional certification or licensure preferred (i.e. P.E., CSP, CIH, CHMM etc.)
•    Ability to travel to manufacturing sites and work in an industrial environment with associated hazards

Education


•    Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
•    Advanced degree in science, engineering or business administration preferred; Specialized training in Health, Safety, and Security regulations and practices.
