Job Description:
Zurich North America is looking for an experienced VP, Lead Data
Scientist to join our Data & Analytics team based out of our North
American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. While this position
will be based out of our Schaumburg Headquarters, we are offering
the flexibility to work both in the office and remotely. You will
collaborate with your manager to set a schedule that supports you,
your customers, and the team.As a thought leader within the team,
the mission of the VP, Lead Data Scientist is to put the science
into the decision-making process. Priorities can change in a
fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not
limited to the following responsibilities:Being the trusted expert
charged with evolving our data science roadmap for all software and
engineering analyticsDevelop novel research to qualitatively deduce
and draw conclusions from data to directly influence feature
design, business models, UX and process heuristicsBe able to
formulate problems well, prototype solutions, make reasonable
assumptions in the face of ill-structured problems, design
solutions and analyze results Design and implement predictive
models and simulations to optimize business decisions Build and
design Machine Learning systems and AI products to optimize
underwriting and claims use casesCreate an experimentation platform
and methodology to allow for the agile, but safe, testing of all
software featuresProvide technical leadership and mentorship to
data scientists with a wide range of backgroundsDemocratize and
socialize learning by acting as editor of a centralized learning
repositoryUnderstand stakeholder needs and educate partners on the
formulation of research questions and methodologiesEvangelize our
data science practice outside the company to increase visibility,
attract data portal customers, and recruit new talentIncrease
technical proficiency and data science literacy across ZNABasic
Qualifications:Bachelor''s Degree and 10 or more years of
experience in the Statistical and/or Predictive Analytics
areaPreferred Qualifications:Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science,
or related quantitative areasExtensive hands-on experience in
building and executing complex analytical and statistical projects
and analyses using advanced statistical modeling techniques in a
business settingComfort manipulating and analyzing sophisticated,
high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources,
including both structured and unstructured dataThe ability to
demonstrate proficient knowledge of machine and deep learning
methods like k-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision
Forests, Regularization RegressionsExperience developing AI
algorithms and products with Natural Language Processing, Computer
Vision, Image/Voice Recognition, Unsupervised Process and Pattern
Mining using popular AI/ML frameworks A strong design thinking in
user experience and interfaceA strong passion for empirical
research and for answering hard questions with dataA flexible
analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of
precisionAbility to communicate sophisticated quantitative analysis
in a clear, detailed, and meaningful manner using data
visualization techniquesExperience in insurance-specific predictive
analyticsTrack record of developing distinctive business impact
through analyticsProficiency with Python and SQLExperience working
with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing
tools (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.) and Machine Learning
pipelines (Spark, DASK, Argo, etc.)Cultivates open, inclusive
